All groups are different, some purely social and some also offering the chance to hear talks on caring issues or topics of general interest.
Most groups organise social events and outings throughout the year for carers.
General Carers' Groups
Many people gain help and support from meeting together with others who have similar experiences or problems and from being able to 'let off steam' with people who understand.
General Carers' Groups, provide the opportunity for carers to meet together in a relaxed, informal atmosphere over a cup of tea or coffee.
See General Carers Groups for information on groups across the District:
Specific Carers Support Groups
These groups are for those who are caring for people with a specific illness or disability.
See Specific Carers' Groups for information on various groups such as:
Support Groups for Carers and Those They Care For
We also have information on support groups for the people who have the illness, disability or condition. Some of these groups do provide information and support to carers.
See Other Support Groups for information about groups across the District.
Carers' Groups with a Difference
Carers Walking Group
If you would like to join a group and get healthy at the same time as meeting other carers, Carers Wakefield & District run a walking group for carers. Walking is a great way to improve your health and fitness, enjoy the fresh air and meet new people.
For more information see Carers Walking Group.
Funds for Carers' Groups
We facilitate a 'Grants for Carers' Groups' on behalf of the Local Authority, where groups can apply for up to £250.
If you are already running a carers support group or are thinking of starting one, Contact Us for more information on the 'Grants for Carers' Groups'.
