Nevertheless whether it be as a result of differences in language, culture, locality or a variety of these and other reasons, achieving this amongst the diverse communities across the District has frequently proved difficult.
As a result of sustained work to establish contacts, some success is now being seen in the awareness of our work amongst the South Asian communities and we will continue to build on that. However, we do recognise the need to establish awareness of our services amongst other groups within the BME (Black, Minority, Ethnic communities). Specifically, but not exclusively, we shall endeavour to raise our profile with asylum seekers and refugees, the 'Eastern European' communities, travellers, and with LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Trans-gender) carers.
Our services are open to everyone, and we welcome enquiries from all sectors of the community. If you are a carer yourself, or someone with involvement in any 'minority' community, please contact Chris Clark on: (01924) 305396 or e-mail: chris@carerswakefield.org.uk , if you need advice on a caring issue or think we may be able to develop our services within that community.
