I am able to offer one-to-one advice, guidance and support to carers looking after someone with learning disabilities in the Wakefield District. Either meeting at home or in the office, I try to:
Listen -
offer the time to talk about your concerns in confidence.
Meet Your Needs -
discuss your situation and help you address your needs wherever possible.
Give Independent Advice and Guidance -
relating to your circumstances. As a few examples: legislation rights; welfare benefits; direct payments; information on disabilities/illnesses; relaxation and anxiety management; social/community groups; Social Care Direct; reviews and carers' assessments and planning for the future in areas such as: person-centred planning; individualised budgets; housing; independent living skills; wills and discretionary trusts.
Offer Useful Contacts -
help you contact specific organisations who can give additional invaluable support and advice.
Advocacy -
provide support and guidance and another voice, if needed, over a period of time for a range of situations, such as: attending a needs assessment; review meeting; carer's assessment; looking at alternative housing options with family services for the person being cared for.
Put you in touch with Support and Friendship Groups -
would you like to meet other people you can relate to, share experience and advice with? Would you like to relax, socialise and make new friends? We facilitate a Support Group and a Walking Group, and can also help you make contact with other Carers' Groups in the Wakefield District.
Learn From You -
through listening to your experiences, we can attempt to influence changes in the future for yourself and others in relation to carers' needs which aren't being met.
If you feel that I could be of help to you in any way or you would like to talk things over, please get in touch.
My name is Lucy Horobin and you can ring me on (01924) 305372.
