Amanda contacted us in 2010, to identify carers prepared to be interviewed on TV. We approached her and as Patron she will use her knowledge, experience, contacts and charisma to assist the organisation to highlight the needs of carers and raise the organisation's profile.
Amanda says:
"I have worked at the BBC for nearly ten years. You may have seen me reading the news on our many bulletins at Look North, but my other role is working as a Video Journalist. I swap the heels for trainers and get out and about in Yorkshire filming and interviewing the people who make the news with my camera.
It was in this role that I had the pleasure of meeting Pat who cares for her husband Bill in Hemsworth - a lovely couple who, as well as being naturals in front of the camera, gave our audience a real feel of what it's like to be a carer and to be cared for.
I look forward to representing Carers Wakefield & District and learning more about this invaluable service. On my first visit to the centre in Wakefield, I was offered a cup of tea before I had even taken my coat off - I know we're going to get on!"
